The energy monitoring chart shows the electricity used by the Vancouver City Hall throughout the day on Saturday March 29. The chart shows the actual electricity (in kilowatts) consumed by the building, and the typical or expected energy consumption for the building over the same period. The typical curve analyzes a wide range of energy information, including historical energy use and weather information, to predict how much energy the building should be consuming at every moment of every day. The typical curve is useful for spotting anomalies between the actual energy consumption and what is expected.

Earth Hour at Vancouver City Hall

At 8pm on March 29th, the City of Vancouver shut off power to all non-essential services at City Hall. Most visibly, the front-lit art deco facade of the building and the Olympic and Paralympic Flags were darkened for the event.

The City of Vancouver's participation in Earth Hour is part of its broader commitment to making Vancouver one of the most sustainable cities on the planet. Through initiatives such as the One Day programme, the Vancouver municipal government is helping and encouraging residents to live more sustainably. By taking an active role in Earth Hour, the City of Vancouver is encouraging residents to personally tackle global climate change.

Lights out at City Hall
