Mayor announces Small Energy Group to monitor energy usage at Vancouver City Hall during Earth Hour
VANCOUVER - In a press conference this afternoon at City Hall, Mayor Sam Sullivan officially declared March 29, 2008 from 8pm-9pm to be Earth Hour in Vancouver.
Small Energy Group co-founder David Helliwell was on site to demonstrate to members of the media how their innovative technology will monitor and display the City's energy savings throughout Earth Hour and into the future over the internet in real-time. The City will shut down interior and exterior lights, send a notice to all staff to turn off their computers over the weekend and will power down relevant park and school board facilities. Helliwell stated that if Canada reduced its energy use by just one percent for a year, t he savings would come to $250 million dollars.
